APJ abdul kalam

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was a noted Indian scientist and 11th President of India. He worked in some of the most important organizations of the country (DRDO and ISRO). He also played an important role in the 1998 Pokhran II nuclear test. Dr Kalam was also associated with India's space program and missile development program. This is why he is also called 'Missile Man'. Kalam was elected President of India in 2002 and after 5 years of service, he returned to teaching, writing, and public service. He was honored with several prestigious awards including India's highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna.

Early life

Avul Pakir Jainul Abidin Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in a Muslim family in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. His father Zainul Abidin was a sailor and his mother was Ashiamma, a homemaker. The financial condition of his family was poor, so he had to work from a very young age. For the financial support of his father,  Kalam used to do newspapers distribution after school. During his school days, Kalam was general in studies and was always ready and ready to learn new things. They had a hunger to learn and they used to spend hours on studies. He completed his schooling from Ramanathapuram Schwartz Matriculation School and after that he joined St Joseph's College, Tiruchirapalli, from where he graduated in Physics in 1954. After that, he went to Madras in 1955, from where he received the education of aerospace engineering. In the year 1960 Kalam completed engineering studies from the Madras Institute of Technology.

Carrier

After completing his engineering studies from the Madras Institute of Technology, Kalam was admitted as a scientist in the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Kalam started his career by designing a small helicopter for the Indian Army. Kalam was not satisfied with his work in the DRDO. Kalam was also a member of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's 'Indian National Committee for Space Research'. During this he got an opportunity to work with famous space scientist Vikram Sarabhai. In the year 1969, he was transferred to Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Here he was appointed as Director of Satellite Launch Vehicle Project of India. As a result of the success of this project, India's first satellite 'Rohini' was established in the orbit of Earth in the year 1980. Joining ISRO was one of the most important turning point of Kalam's career and when he started work on the satellite launch vehicle project, he felt like he was doing the same thing in which he feels his mind.

During 1963-64, he also traveled to America's space station NASA. The nuclear scientist, King Ramanna, whose supervision was the first nuclear test in India, had called Kalam to see nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1974.

With his work and successes in the seventies and the eighties, Dr. Kalam became very famous in India and his name was counted among the biggest scientists of the country. His fame had increased so much that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had allowed him to work on some secret projects without the approval of his cabinet.

The Government of India started the ambitious Integrated Guided Missile Development Program, under the supervision of Dr. Kalam. He was the chief executive of this project. This project has given missile like fire and earth to the country.

From July 1992 to December 1999 Dr. Kalam was the Secretary of the Prime Minister and Secretary of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). India had conducted its second nuclear test at this time. He played an important role in it. R. With Chidambaram, Dr. Kalam was the coordinator of this project. Media coverage made during this time made him the country's largest nuclear scientist.

In 1998, Dr. Kalam together with heart physician Soma Raju developed a low cost 'coronary stent'. It was named 'Kalam-Raju Stent'.

President of india

In view of his achievements and fame as a defense scientist, N. D.A. The coalition government made him the presidential candidate in the year 2002. He defeated his rival Laxmi Sehgal by a huge margin and took oath as India's 11th President on July 25, 2002. Dr. Kalam was the third President of the country who had already been honored by Bharat Ratna even before becoming President. Prior to this, Dr. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Zakir Hussain had been honored with 'Bharat Ratna' before becoming President.

During his tenure, he was called 'President of the public'. At the end of his term, he also expressed his desire for a second term, but he discarded this view because of lack of opinion in political parties.

At the end of the term of 12th President Pratibha Patil, once again, his name was discussed in the form of the next possible president, but due to lack of consensus, he abandoned his candidature.

Post retirement

After retirement from the presidency, Dr. Kalam was engaged in work such as teaching, writing, guidance and research, and he was associated with Visiting Professors from institutions such as Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management, Indore. . Apart from this, he was also a professor of aerospace engineering at fellow Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai.

He also taught information technology in IIT Hyderabad, Banaras Hindu University and Anna University.

Kalam always talked about improving the youth of the country and their future. In this regard, he also initiated the "What Can I Gave" initiative for the youth of the country, whose purpose is to eradicate corruption. Given his popularity among the youth of the country, he was awarded two times (2003 & 2004) 'M.T.V. Youth Icon of the Year Award '.

Hindi film 'I am Kalam', which was released in 2011, is influenced by her life.

In addition to education, Dr. Kalam has written several books, including 'India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium', 'Wings of Fire: An Autobiography', 'Eagle Minds: Analyashing the Power Within India', 'Mission India' , 'Indomitable spirits' etc.

Awards and honours

For his work done for nation and society, Dr. Kalam was honored with many awards. Nearly 40 universities gave him honorary doctorate and the Government of India embellished him with Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and India's highest civilian honor 'Bharat Ratna'.
